There is so much out there about core samples that are good and interesting images --- admittedly by taking the time to look at what possibilities a core sample gives --- I am much more interested in this idea. The core sample is the central idea of a collaborative project I am starting with two artists. Of course I am excited to work with these two artists and I found the idea of making a core sample provocative--- the artist I am working with are good friends. I welcome the exchange and the collegiality. Uninspired to make anything from salt, wax, horse hair, pigment , paper and felt--- things that I have been working with and have an affinity for--- it was not until until I started to look around and started thinking now about the possibility of creating a density with materials that I know and am interested in --- there is much beauty in the marking of time when it is not deliberately marked. That is to say the gentle striations of pattern and mass that are created from layer upon layer of weather and living. The marking with grease pencil across the form in a hurried business-like way is interesting also--- this is the 10th of a second hand layered over the years at a time aging. This is rich ground.
