I have been thinking about this image for days now. The dramatic lighting--- the closed off composition-- we see only St. Peter's face. The way his torso and legs twist and lean against gravity. The way St. Peter strains upwards as he is being crucified upside down. St. Peter is weak and he is still self aware. The soldier below him -- pushing up the cross is burdened. Feeling the pressure and weightedness of St. Peter's body in such a position. Always , I've thought that St. Peter was looking for no one and everyone as the creaking of the wood pulled him up - side - down. Breathtaking.
