After many weeks of not being really up to speed with it all I feel that I am back in groove of school and teaching art. I love the process and the way we all dig around in our ideas and processes.
Since I have returned to work from a six week medical leave I have caught a cold, the 24 hour stomach flu, re-established my place on committees and in the fabric of the school community and re-entered the classroom with a new view of what this whole art of teaching is about for the children and for myself.
Children remember skill and then content. I am seeing this to be true. What is our job if not to teach skill. The skill of looking, of perceiving, the skill of painting of value studies and of being able to make what is in your mind and your heart come to the fore. To communicate what is in your minds eye to others in their minds eye. We are not about simply filling time -- no there is much to be said for the power of knowing , really knowing how to create something and then how to move into the challenege of making your voice heard within the something that is created.
